sentence that orders someone to do something. It ends with a period
(.) or an exclamation mark

REQUEST
Request is a sentence that asks someone to do
something. It ends with a period (.) or a question mark (?).
1.
Request
with “I” as the subject.
Example: May/Could/Can + I + borrow
your pen?
2.
Request
with “You” as the subject.
Example: Would/Will/Could/Can + You
+ lend me your novel?
Example
:
1.
You want to ask your tutor a question.
Request sentence: May I ask a
question?
2.
You are at your friends house. You want
to use the phone.
Request sentence: Can I use the
phone?
3.
You are at restaurant, you’ve finished
the meal, you ask the waiter for the bill.
Request sentence: Could you give me
the bill?
4.
You knock on your tutor’s half opem
door. He’s sitting at his desk.
Request sentence: May I come in?
